In 2013 we worked with VisitEngland to examine trends in domestic leisure tourism. This report was one of final outputs of a detailed research process, which also resulted in a major conference presentation and a dedicated website and online think tank.
Using horizon scanning, the report looked at five key trends and their potential impacts on domestic tourism in the coming years; population and social change, economics and recession-led trends, consumer trends and tourism trends.
Changes to family structure and ageing populations, squeezed consumers and changes in consumer expectations of services and connectivity have all had an impact on the UK’s domestic tourism industry. This report examines the data on the drivers of these trends, analysing their potential impacts and allowing VisitEngland to create pre-emptive strategy.
