July’s edition of The Optimism Index sees consumer sentiment improve slightly with optimism rising one point to 50. Much of the commentary surrounding the pandemic has referred to a ‘new normal’ and with consumer sentiment now highly stable, but considerably lower than earlier in the year, consumers may have a new baseline for optimism during the pandemic.

The re-opening of the economy is well underway, but not all consumers are responding, with only half of consumers taking part in activities that are ‘newly’ available to them.
