Brexit: Where next for the UK?

Wednesday 28th March 2018 – 08.30-09.30

We are now just one year away from the UK’s departure from the EU. While the clock is ticking, the nature of our future relationship with Europe and the rest of the world remains uncertain and divisive.

The 2016 referendum has not just exposed a deep fissure in public sentiment but entrenched it further as the somewheres, anywheres and citizens of nowhere fight for a future that is most acceptable, or least unacceptable, to them. Do these divides make progress impossible? Will the NHS get £350m a week? Will Theresa May still be Prime Minister at the end of the year (or the end of the month)?

The uncertainty extends beyond our extraction from the EU and to our likely relationship with the rest of the world: will we take back control and forge stronger trading relationships with the rest of the world? Or will the coming trade wars leave us adrift in a sea of murky protectionism and economic nationalism?

The short term will see few concrete answers to these questions but myriad implications for business, consumers and policy makers as they navigate the prevailing uncertainty. In the UK – as elsewhere – there is a change in mood as consumers express zero tolerance for intolerance, and the hard realities of economic stagnation hit spending, confidence and optimism.

Join us for a continental breakfast on Wednesday 28th March as we outline the Brexit scenarios and explore what they mean for the UK, Europe and the world.

Get Smarter Over Breakfast

Our Trends Breakfasts have been running for five years, and each month sees a different topic discussed and debated over coffee and croissants. Taking place on a private floor of a popular city location, an array of figures from different industries hear our thoughts on the chosen topic, which often draws on latest findings from our global attitudes and values survey, Trajectory Global Foresight.
