The Future Demography of the UK

Fewer trend categories will have a more profound impact on the future of the UK than demographics. Though not always identified as such, demographic trends are at the heart of debates about the long term future of the NHS and social care, immigration and Brexit, as well as long term macro issues such as the future of food production and climate change.
On a more near-term basis, we are seeing traditional demographic patterns and norms transform at pace. We used to pontificate about the end of the linear life course; now it is a fact for Boomers and Millennials alike (albeit with differing drivers and outcomes.) Witness also the rapid rise of gender identity as an issue. At a commercial level, because of increased longevity, businesses are likely to draw consumers and employees from different generational cohorts who will have differing needs and prefer to interact with you differently.
If that does not pique your interest, perhaps the centrality of demographics to contemporary popular culture will? Malthusian demographic analysis provided the central plot line for Avengers Infinity War this year, with the evil Thanos hell-bent on killing half the ‘beings’ in the universe to save it from unsustainable resource depletion. A little extreme you may think, but is it that far off the mark?!
Please join us for breakfast on 28th June for a tour of these issues and more.
Get Smarter Over Breakfast
Our Trends Breakfasts have been running for five years, and each month sees a different topic discussed and debated over coffee and croissants. Taking place on a private floor of a popular city location, an array of figures from different industries hear our thoughts on the chosen topic, which often draws on latest findings from our global attitudes and values survey, Trajectory Global Foresight.
Please email sarah (sarah@trajectorypartnership.com) to reserve your complimentary place and join us for breakfast.
