The Deregulation of Life

Thursday 24th November 2016 – 08:30-09:30

The Happenstance, 1a Ludgate Hill, London EC4M 7AA

Do you eat at the same time every day? Do you shop at the same time each week? Do you only use your smartphone or laptop at designated points in the day?

If the answer to any or all of these questions is no, then chances are you are experiencing one of the dominant trends of our time: the Deregulation of Life.

At its simplest, Deregulation gives us unprecedented flexibility over when, where and how we do certain things. Work is less likely to be tied to a particular place, shopping is less likely to be determined by high street opening hours and mealtimes are a thing of the past.

But Deregulation is broader than simply enjoying less routine in our daily lives. The meaning of age and gender is changing as the roles and definitions associated with demographic markers become less relevant. Deregulation at work and in the economy is also evident in zero-hours contracts and the gig economy, suggesting that there may be as many challenges as opportunities in this trend.

The simple fact that deregulation of life is transforming how we work, rest and play, every sector of the consumer economy will be re-shaped by it.

Join us for breakfast on Thursday 24th November as we explore the drivers, manifestations and future of a trend that is changing our economy, society and daily lives.

Our Trends Breakfasts have been running for over three years, and each month sees a different topic discussed and debated over coffee and croissants. Taking place in the private room of a popular city location, an array of figures from different industries hear our thoughts on the chosen topic, which often draws on latest findings from our global attitudes and values survey, Trajectory Global Foresight.

Please email Isabelle (isabelle@trajectorypartnership.com) to reserve your place for free and join us for breakfast!
