Trends Briefing: A new political era
Thursday 28th November 2024
0900-1000
Our next trends briefing takes place with the still relatively new UK government having been in office for just over four months.
It will be our first briefing since the budget statement on 30th October. As fiscal events go, it was a pretty substantial one. We now have much stronger sense of Labour’s strategy for the next four years. Whether you are in favour or against the measures announced by Rachel Reeves, they mark a clear departure from the approach taken by the previous government and point to a new direction for politics in the UK.
It’s also our first trend briefing since Former President Donald Trump became, once again, President Elect Donald Trump.
This feels like the perfect time to take stock of our political trends, including Political Certainty, Nations First and Britain’s Place in the World. In this webinar we will review what will change and what will remain the same in the UK’s new political era.
We will also share the results of new research on public attitudes to the main budget measures. Over the last two decades it has often been observed that the UK is a country that aspires to European levels of public services, whilst only being willing to pay US levels of taxation. The new government is putting us firmly on track to pay European levels of taxation, whether the European standards of public services follow remains to be seen. Our research explores the extent to which the new government is taking the people with them on their new tax and spend journey, and identifies which groups of voters are behind the new agenda, and which are not.
These issues have widespread implications for our clients in all sectors. The ‘P’ for politics is often the most neglected category in a traditional PEST or PESTLE analysis. This feels like a genuine inflection point for UK politics and it is time to give the ‘P’ the attention it deserves.
As ever, our thoughts will come with implications for businesses, brands, charities and policymakers.
